⭐UPDATE - Owner was located and this good boy gets to go home!!!

**Lost Dog**

This very friendly boy came into the South Newport Firehouse this morning. He does not have any collar or tags, and we have not had the opportunity to check to see if he is microchipped yet. Does anyone know who he may belong to? He listens and follows commands. He is a sweetie and really enjoyed his firehouse tour this morning ❤

He will be looking for a loving home or rescue if he does not get claimed if anyone is interested.

*PLEASE share this post and let's find his family or a good home!

Because of the nature of our work, we can’t safely operate without a certain number of personnel. In other words, to send us to a fire with inadequate staffing would be irresponsible at best; at worst, deadly.

Newport Firefighters responded to a residential fire at 338 Thorton with only a Command vehicle and 2 engine companies with 7 personnel total for the initial fire attack and life safety. Both Newport ambulances were on calls and Truck 911(100 ft ladder and essential equipment) was unable to respond because it is cross staffed by the ambulance personnel.

Time and personnel affect lives. By reducing the amount of time it takes to perform fireground tasks—specifically, deploying a hoseline—the better the outcome for the victim and the firefighters.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1710 recommends that each company be staffed with four firefighters, including a company officer, and that officer must remain as part of the company; they can’t stay outside the building as command.
‐ The four‐person crews can complete the same number of fire ground tasks (on average) 5.1 minutes faster —nearly 25% faster —than the three‐person crew.
‐ The four‐person crew operating on a low‐hazard structure fire can complete laddering and ventilation (for
life safety and rescue) 25% faster than the three‐person crew.
‐ NFPA 1710 requires 15‐17 FFs on scene in 8 minutes. *It took over 10 minutes for THIS incident to meet the MINIMUM requirements of an initial fire scene response.

The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) conducted simulated fires in single-family homes and high-rises. The results showed that the longer response times of additional companies (mutual aid) negated their impact on suppression effectiveness.

Thank you to Covington Professional Firefighters Local 38, Bellevue-Dayton Firefighters IAFF Local 3751, Ft. Thomas Firefighters Local 1928 for your assistance today.

On April 26th, your Newport Firefighters responded to a 1-year-old choking. The object was not able to be dislodged by our firefighters and they immediately took the child to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. While transporting, the child stopped breathing and firefighters had to breathe for her. Upon arrival at the hospital, the child was transferred to Children's staff. After 8 days in the hospital, the child was discharged and is back to her normal self.

Today while socially distancing, the family came in to thank the firefighters that helped the child. The thanks are appreciated but seeing this little girl healthy is what is important.

Your Newport Firefighters are on the frontlines, protecting and serving our community. Posted with permission of the family.
